Visual identity of Vilnius District

decoration

Languages, cultures and histories intertwine here – this is the message that is conveyed by the District's visual identity – the motto and logo. The new design underlines the uniqueness of our district and makes it easier to recognise.

For many, Vilnius District is associated with the diversity of the community, revealed through different languages, cultures and traditions, and the history of different nations. Multiculturalism and multilingualism are the values of the Vilnius District, which are reflected in the slogan "Languages, cultures and histories intertwine here".

Visual expression of the creative idea – the palm of Vilnius region

It is also worth noting that the Vilnius District has a strong commitment to Christian traditions and values.

The tradition of tying palms in the Vilnius region is included in the list of Lithuanian cultural heritage values. Therefore, the visual identity of the municipality was designed not only to present a new, more modern "face" of the district, but also to emphasise the unique cultural heritage of the Vilnius region - the palm, which is an expression of Christian faith and life.

The Easter palm is an important part of Palm Sunday and is associated with Jesus Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem, when people waved palm branches and threw them at his feet. The palm tree symbolises joy and victory, the rebirth of life.

The palm organically combines Christian values and artistic intentions, different seasons, colours and generations of weavers. It is therefore perfectly suited as a symbol of Vilnius District's multicultural, colourful and variegated history, deep traditions and the harmony of peoples, of what we have to be proud of and of what makes our District unique.

The graphic element features motifs of palm carvings

The idea of the graphic representation of the sign representing the Vilnius District originated from carvings, which are also inseparable from the culture of the Vilnius region. By giving a modern graphic look to the elements of the carvings depicting palms, different symbols are created to form the logo.

The logo of the Vilnius District is dynamic and can be made in versions of 3, 4 or more elements of the palm, depending on the need. Just like the life-symbol verbs knotted by folk artists are always different – no two are the same – so our logo is alive and changing.

The basic version of the logo consists of three elements whose meaning is associated with the Vilnius district – a gorgeous top of reeds or rushes (the green and beautiful nature of the district), St. The crown of St. Casimir and a heart.

St. Casimir is the patron saint of Lithuania and its youth and is considered the patron saint of craftsmen. He used to spend his childhood holidays with his teacher J. Dlugoš at Medininkai Castle in Vilnius district. After the emergence of St. the cult of St. Casimir is celebrated with feasts and the traditional Kaziukas Fair. In honour of the saint, craftsmen tried to prepare products reflecting his personality. This is how the palms with the image of St. Casimir were created. This is why they were created, including the "crown" of St Casimir, heart-shaped wreaths and gingerbread. The heart shape is also an allusion to the Kaziukas gingerbread, which is usually in the shape of a heart with various witty inscriptions. The palm and the traditional Kaziukas gingerbread are the pride of the Vilnius region.

The new logo and corporate identity are used in communication to reflect the features and distinctiveness of Vilnius District and to increase its recognisability.

Prior to the creation of the logo, the District's coat of arms was used in public communication and will continue to be the official distinctive sign.

The creative work was carried out by the branding and design agency "Folk".
