On March 5, Irena Stankiewicz, chairwoman of the Association "Open House" (pl. Stowarzyszenie "Otwarty dom") from Bialystok, which carries out charity activities in Vilnius district, visited Vilnius District Municipality and met with the Mayor Marija Rekst.
The chairwoman of the association, Irena Stankiewicz, has come to the municipality with the members of the association to present the current activities in the district of Vilnius and the co-operation that has been going on for more than 20 years with the community of Gymnasium in Buivydžiai and children from the children and adolescents social center in Nemenčinė.
The Association "Open House" organizes fun trips to Poland before holidays for children of Vilnius District each year, in which children from underprivileged, large families or without parental care can spend their most important annual holidays in a cozy family environment.
The main goal of the associations activity is to provide children with a warm and festive family environment. During Christmas and Easter, children, together with their foster families, prepare for holidays, attend celebrations, learn the subtleties of old crafts related to the holidays, and become more familiar with the customs and traditions.
The Association takes care of childrens well-being and also provides encouraging promotions for first-graders and future students, by providing them with essential school supplies and other necessary things.
During the meeting, the Chairwoman of the Association expressed admiration for the culture, cherished traditions and people of Vilnius district. The Mayor of Vilnius District Municipality was thanked for the open and sincere cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, the Mayor of the Vilnius District Municipality thanked the guests for their long-time support for the children of Vilnius district and presented them with the traditional Easter palm of the Vilnius region.
