Coat of arms of Glitiškės

decoration

Glitiškės is a settlement rich in history, spiritual heritage, and cultural legacy. From early times, a Dominican monastery operated here, shaping the religious life and education of the local community. In Glitiškės stands a Neo-Gothic manor – one of the most important architectural cultural monuments, testifying to the region’s historical development and noble past. In the 19th century, local residents actively participated in the 1831 Uprising, demonstrating their national consciousness and determination to fight for freedom.

Today, Glitiškės is a vibrant and united community that preserves its historical memory, nurtures culture, and upholds values passed down from generation to generation.

In the red field of the coat of arms, an oak tree with roots is depicted, symbolizing the state-protected oak growing in Glitiškės – a natural monument embodying the historical and natural memory of the region.

Also depicted in the shield are two crossed swords, symbolizing the 1831 Uprising, when the manor’s insurgents gathered by the Glitiškės oak. This symbol emphasizes the local historical memory, the spirit of resistance, and the struggle for freedom.

In heraldry, the color red signifies courage, bravery, and love. Silver symbolizes water, purity, virtue, and loyalty. Gold represents light and spiritual wealth.

The coat of arms was designed by artist Rolandas Rimkūnas.
