Nordplus Junior project “Alice in Digi-land”: A Youth Journey Through the Digital World

decoration

The digital world today is an inseparable part of teenagers’ lives. Yet many young people still search for answers on how to stay safe online, recognize threats, or avoid cyberbullying. That is why the team of Konstanto Parčevskio Gymnasium in Nemenčinė (Lithuania), together with partners from Hiumaa Gymnasium (Estonia) and Gausdal High School (Norway), invited students on a journey into Alice in Digi-land – an international project that helped them discover, understand, and create in the digital space.

In three international meetings, 30 students and 12 teachers from partner schools participated, with each country bringing its own strengths. The Lithuanian team focused on internet safety – protecting personal data and preventing bullying. Norwegian partners led workshops on multimedia creation and spotting fake news, while the Estonian team encouraged participants to analyze media bias and reflect on their digital identity.

The project became a real creative laboratory. Students produced 9 videos and animations, 3 AI-generated songs, 3 online games, drawings, and presentations – all inspired by the project’s fairy-tale characters, Alice in Digi-land. The best works were showcased in schools, on the eTwinning platform, and in a digital project book.

Learning also took place outside classrooms. Participants visited museums, churches, and TV studios, comparing how knowledge was shared in the past – through manuscripts, art, pilgrimages – with today’s communication via television, the internet, and social media. In Vilnius and Tallinn, they explored TV studio backstage, attended a university lecture on disinformation, joined media workshops. In Norway, students examined the Happiness Index and carried out their own survey. The results? The less time spent on screens and the more on face-to-face interaction, the happier young people feel.

Languages also built bridges between cultures. Students prepared a set of everyday phrases in Estonian, Norwegian, and Lithuanian, recorded a video with digital terms in English and partner languages, and created 9 vlogs and presentations sharing their experiences and cultural insights from Lithuania, Norway, and Estonia.

The project proved that the digital world can be explored not only through theory but also through creativity, collaboration, and lived experience. Students shared their discoveries in schools, on eTwinning, YouTube, the project website, as well as during conferences and events.
