The Vilnius District Municipality is showcasing the results of an ambitious investment program, with dozens of vital facilities across the region being completed, reconstructed, and renovated. From modern educational institutions opening their doors this autumn to cultural gems like the revitalized Mozūriškės Manor and strategic infrastructure projects, these changes will positively impact every resident by creating a better, more convenient, and more sustainable environment.
“Just like last year, we're keeping up the tradition of visiting and checking on the progress of our most important projects. This isn't just about construction – it's about the future of our community. We're seeing walls rise and spaces renewed that will benefit our kids, families, and seniors for years to come.
Despite challenges like contractor bankruptcies and unexpected issues in old buildings, we've brought together a team of competent specialists who are successfully managing these projects, ensuring they are completed on time and to a high standard” says Mayor Robert Duchnevič, summarizing the results of the visits.
Modernizing Educational Institutions
One of the municipality's top priorities is investing in the quality and accessibility of education. This autumn, two brand-new modular kindergartens will open in Zujūnai and Rastinėnai, each with three groups. The complex project for the Vaidotai kindergarten has been successfully completed, with the facade finally finished this year after an interior renovation last year, making the facility fully operational. In the village of Keturiasdešimt Totorių, a school building is being reconstructed, which, once finished next year, will free up much-needed space at Pagiriai Gymnasium. The most ambitious educational project is the modern music and arts school building being constructed in Nemenčinė, which is over 60% complete. This comprehensive arts center is scheduled to be finished in September 2026. Also this autumn, one of the Nemenčinė kindergartens on Piliakalnio Street will welcome children back after an interior renovation.
Culture, Leisure, and Heritage
Equal attention is being given to fostering communities and creating quality leisure opportunities. This year will see the completion of Pagiriai Park, which will offer families a great space with playgrounds, outdoor exercise equipment, a skatepark, and an event stage. A new Pagiriai cultural center is also quickly being built right next to it. Exceptional cultural heritage is being revitalized at Mozūriškės Manor, which is now ready for use. It will soon become a unique Palm Museum, celebrating the famous Vilnius region tradition that is a candidate for UNESCO recognition. The manor will serve both tourists and the needs of residents.
Strengthening Social and Healthcare Services
Alongside cultural and educational projects, the municipality is actively strengthening its social and healthcare service network The Mickūnai outpatient clinic is being rebuilt to offer a wider range of services, including access to a family doctor, midwife, dentist, and other essential services. This work is scheduled to be completed this September. The Riešė project became a true success story: after construction stalled due to a contractor's bankruptcy, the work was successfully restarted and completed, establishing social workshops and a day center for people with disabilities. In response to high demand, an extension is being built at a social care home in the Paberžė Eldership, with work nearing completion.
Sustainable Infrastructure for Comfortable Living
All these social, cultural, and educational changes are framed by strategic investment decisions that modernize the district's infrastructure. Boiler houses in Skaidiškės and Buivydiškės are being reconstructed to switch to more efficient biofuel. A joint project with "Via Lietuva" on Polocko highway is now complete. The municipality's installation of a bike path and lighting has created a safe connection between Mickūnai and Naujoji Vilnia. The renovated Skaidiškės Sports Center is also planned to open this autumn.
