Vilnius District Municipality is expanding its international cooperation network – on October 24, a memorandum of intent was signed to establish cooperation between Vilnius District Municipality, the Department of Humanitarian Policy Implementation of the Kherson Regional State Administration (Ukraine) and the Chulakivka Village Military Administration of Skadovsk District, Kherson Region (Ukraine).
Robert Duchnevič, Mayor of Vilnius District Municipality, emphasized that this cooperation represents another important step in strengthening ties between the people of Lithuania and Ukraine.
"Today, as the people of Ukraine fight for their freedom and future, it is especially important to demonstrate solidarity and develop joint projects that contribute to the strengthening of local communities. Partnership with institutions from the Kherson region opens new opportunities for exchanging experiences and implementing cultural, educational, and social initiatives. Together, we can achieve more – for the benefit of both our municipality and Ukrainian community," said Mayor R. Duchnevič.
The parties agreed to cooperate in areas such as tourism and business promotion, culture, sports, investment attraction, environmental protection, emergency management, social welfare (including humanitarian aid), as well as exchanging experience, utilizing European Union funding and strengthening partnerships between administrative units.
The acquaintance with representatives from the Kherson region began on August 22 this year, when the Vilnius District Municipality hosted a special photo exhibition, “Unbreakable Kherson".
This unique exhibition was not only an inspiring cultural event but also an excellent opportunity to discuss the current situation in Kherson, share experiences, present the cultural achievements of both regions, and explore potential avenues for cooperation.
The parties are confident that this partnership will enhance the well-being of local communities and foster an environment conducive to the development and implementation of meaningful initiatives and innovative ideas in the future.
Vilnius District Municipality already has a cooperation partner in Ukraine – the Executive Committee of Sambir City Council (Lviv Region). The cooperation agreement with this municipality was signed on September 28, 2012. Furthermore, there are plans to develop partnerships with the Odesa region in the near future.
