On Wednesday, March 20th, Vilnius District Municipality hosted a delegation of doctoral students from the Kazakhstan Academy of Public Administration under the President of Kazakhstan.
A group of ten doctoral students in the field of public administration from Kazakhstan came along with Prof. Dr Vainius Smalskis from the Institute of Public Administration at Mykolas Romeris University in Vilnius and Dr Gediminas Kazėnas, the Head of the Centre Right Coalition fraction of the Vilnius District Council, a lecturer at MRU.
The delegation was introduced to Vilnius District by the Head of Administration Vladislav Kondratovič. He spoke about his experience in Kazakhstan and discussed with the guests aspects of how the municipality operates, subordination and duties of institutions, functions of the Council and elderships, as well as the differences between Lithuania, Kazakhstan and the experience of the post-Soviet countries in the field of governance overall.
The delegation learned about the role of municipality in promoting business initiatives, expanding infrastructure, challenges of educational institutions, coexistence of different ethnicities and preservation of their traditions in Vilnius District.
The Academy of Public Administration under the President of Kazakhstan is attended by Kazakh public sector workers at various levels (heads of ministry departments, heads of departments, heads of akimat (regional) units, etc.). Masters and PhD students undertake internships at the Institute of Public Administration of Mykolas Romeris University every year. During the internship, students have the opportunity not only attend lectures, but also visit public sector organisations.
